Killers mr brightside what is it about

But behind the anthemic tune and the stirring choruses, Mr Brightside is actually quite a sad song. Instead of breaking down with jealousy, the protagonist puts on a brave face. Brightside, after all. He was living with his sister at the time and was trying to avoid seeing his ex with another man. I never get bored of singing it.

Around the same time, Flowers met guitarist Dave Keuning, who'd already written Mr Brightside's backing track. As soon as he heard that chiming riff, his heartbreak spilled out on to the page. The second is the same as the first. I just didn't have any other lines and it ended up sticking.

The pair grabbed a drum machine to record a primitive demo, which was later released on The Killers' Direct Hits compilation. At that stage, it was a much darker song. Flowers alternately sounds angry and on the verge of tears - his vocals raw and raspy against a grungy, fuzztone guitar.

Flowers says his urgent delivery was influenced by David Bowie's Queen Bitch - but when it came to recording the studio version of Mr Brightside, he adopted a more detached, almost voyeuristic, tone. That choice was informed by an artist who is closely associated with Bowie: Iggy Pop.

Mr Brightside was the first complete song The Killers wrote - and the only track to survive the original configuration of their debut album, Hot Fuss. All the other songs were scrapped after The Strokes released Is This It, a record which redefined American guitar music at the start of the millennium. I didn't throw up, but after my voice broke a couple of times I decided that I'd just play keyboards, because singing made me so nervous.

Things didn't improve for quite some time. It wasn't until their demo found its way to the UK indie label Lizard King that they landed a record deal. They had been out for a year looking for a deal but nobody was interested. Heath was particularly impressed by the band's front man. He had huge charisma. He completely believed in what he was doing. He just stood out and carried the music. Despite the buzz, copies wasn't enough to make a dent in the charts; and The Killers seemed destined to become a footnote in musical history.

With the addition of the other men in the clip, we can see that Flowers is not the only man she's led on in this way. The other man see's Flowers with the girl and after the fireworks scene, rejects her. This is where he 'looks on the brightside' "But it's just the price I pay" for kissing and opening his heart to a girl which he knew was flirty.

Everything happens for a reason, this was fate telling him to open up his eyes and lower his naivety. In the end, the girl's environment is silent and dull as Flowers walks away juxtaposing the commotion previously entailing the scenes.

This shows that all the men got sick and tired of her mixed signals and this was The Killer's way of exemplifying that consequently, she was left with no one and got what she deserved. The only thing I cannot figure out which is probably really straight forward , are what the apples in the video clip represent. A great song I'm sure most people can relate to no matter how you interpret it. Apples are known as the forbidden fruit - it's a biblical reference to the Garden of Eden, I think.

The apple is a symbol of temptation. My God, I'm open to interpretation toward song lyrics, but some of these song interpretations from these users are so random that I had to double-check to see if I was on the right song.

Nylo on May 07, General Comment Ok guys, I figured the whole song out. It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss. The kiss means everything to him but it was only a kiss for the girl he fell for. She moves on and he moves into the next verse.

And taking control. While asleep, he dreams of her and this other guy going home and making love together. You can tell that it's a dream of some kind when he says, "And It's all in my head. Because I'm Mr. Brightside part.

He is very jealous about this girl and it keeps killing him inside but the fact that he says that he is Mr. Brightside shows that he moves on quickly. The name, Mr. Brightside, refers to him always looking on the brightside of situations. He refers to this as his curse when he says, "But it's just the price I pay," and it is always his destiny to be broken hearted and move on to the next girl.

He "opens up his eager eyes," looking for the next girl that he can fall in love with. I think that the next verse and chorus refers to him going through the same process with another girl since it repeats the exact same thing, word for word.

This adds to the effect of him saying that things will never change, that he will never find true love, that his destiny is to fall in love with girl after girl, and one by one, they will break his heart.

He finishes the song with a few, "I never's" and by this I think that he is again adding onto the effect that he will never find true love. That is my interpretation of the song "Mr.

Brightside" by The Killers pjs on August 10, Link. Looking through these comments, it's actually pretty hard to decide which one I prefer the most.

They're all pretty valid, I wish I was smart enough to come up with my own But all in all, this is a great song, the tones and heavy kicks in the song really match up with Flowers' voice to deliver the jealous mood perfectly.

Tobotimus on October 25, General Comment I also love this song. But i think this woman is NOT a prostitute. He's just coming out of a breakup with a long time girlfriend.

Then he goes out and starts enjoying himself but runs into this ex girlfriend and shes with another man. From seeing them kiss just once he leaves and then thinks about this whole scenario of them going home and he cant stand it. I have it on repeat right now..! I think he had sex with a prostitute, but he thought she was going to be his girlfriend, and was disappointed when he saw her with another man.

Its about a prostitute. The man is smoking while his dick is getting sucked. The singer didnt treat the girl as prostitute. He kissed her. Been there and felt that! I couldn't agree more with these lyrics!

Shadowrnnr on November 23, He's definatley NOT talking about a blowjob. Watch the music video, he puts his hands near his mouth like he is smoking.

Rangers49 on December 24, I love this song too. It has everything. Love romance. Unexpected drama. Thanks to streaming services, it found a new lease of life as a permanent fixture of countless playlists - regardless of genre or era - and continues to chart around the world. At one point in , it was streamed more than any other song released before Sure, The Killers was touted as part of the s resurgence of guitar bands along with The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes, The Vines, and Arctic Monkeys but the song - surprisingly - never featured in an ad campaign or big marketing push.

It featured in their first-ever show in , at a Las Vegas venue called Cafe Roma, and before even that, it was the first song they ever wrote. He responds to an ad listing from year-old guitarist Dave Keuning. Flowers heard it and was immediately inspired. The second is the same as the first. The duo quickly made a rough demo eventually released on the Direct Hits compilation , and while the crude recording lacks the punch and polish of the finished product, its potential is all there: the instant sing-along factor, the sense of urgency, and the bittersweet flavour of betrayal.

Destiny was calling Flowers and Keuning.
